Solid surface applications in commercial interiors come down to one question: which surfaces get wet, get cleaned hard and get damaged? Those are where Akrilika earns its place. The material is non-porous, parts are bonded with seamless joints, and a scratched or chipped top can be sanded back on site instead of replaced. This page maps our products to the five sectors we supply across Europe, and says plainly where the material does not belong.
What each sector asks of a surface
Hotels and hospitality. Dozens or hundreds of identical room vanities that must match, plus reception desks and bars that carry the interior design. The risk is colour drift between deliveries.
Healthcare. Worktops, nurse stations and patient-room vanity tops that face disinfectants, iodine and daily wipe-downs. The questions are about chemical data and joints.
Public washrooms. Schools, stations, offices and leisure buildings. Wash troughs and multi-basin tops that take heavy use, and damage that must be fixed without closing the washroom for weeks.
Retail and workplace. Shop counters, display plinths, office reception desks and tea points, built to a fit-out contractor’s drawings and programme.
Yachts, motorhomes and caravans. Weight, compact basins and galley tops for builders who produce in series.

Where solid surface is the wrong choice
Say no early and the project goes faster. Akrilika is not for:
- Outdoor use. The warranty excludes outdoor and unheated rooms, and one tested colour (A906) failed the TÜV light-fastness test.
- Floors and shower floors. There is no slip-resistance class.
- Boiling water or food-waste disposers in sinks. Acrylic sinks are rated to 115 °C. Vibration from a disposer damages the sink.
- Curves in Apietra. Only Akrilika and AR can be thermoformed.
- Wall and ceiling fire classes. The TÜV classification is Bfl-s1, a flooring class to EN 13501-1, tested on A101. If your building needs a wall or ceiling Euroclass, raise it before you specify.
How sector projects are supplied
We supply sheets to fabricators and fabricated components to contractors, from the manufacturer to projects across Europe. Warranty cover requires fabrication by a firm holding the Akrilika training certificate. Test reports are on the technical data page, and colour samples can be ordered from samples.

Questions from specifiers
What is solid surface mainly used for in commercial buildings?
Mostly for surfaces that get wet and are cleaned hard: vanity tops, wash troughs, basins, reception desks, bar counters and worktops. Akrilika is non-porous, parts are bonded with seamless joints, and scratches can be sanded out on site. That combination matters most in hotels, healthcare, public washrooms and retail.
Can solid surface be used outdoors or on floors?
Not with Akrilika. The warranty excludes outdoor installation and unheated rooms, and TÜV Rheinland measured the surface at 4.9° under DIN 51130, which gives no slip-resistance class. Use it for indoor counters, tops, basins and wall-mounted parts, not for floors, shower floors or façades.
Which Akrilika material suits curved counters?
Use 100% acrylic Akrilika or the 2026 AR colours. Both can be thermoformed into curves and pressed shapes. Apietra, the modified acrylic range, cannot be bent. It suits flat tops and panels, where it costs about 20–30% less than Akrilika.
Do you have sector-specific certificates, such as marine or rail approvals?
No. We hold no IMO MED, EN 45545-2 or similar approvals. What we can send are the TÜV Rheinland and SGS test reports on the material: fire classification, stain and chemical resistance, food-contact migration and physical properties. Check whether your project needs more than that.
